week one reflection

Tonight we touched based on a lot of the assignments that will be due the next 8 weeks and information about the blogs. When then went in to two different websites and found the information that we liked from them and shared them in a discussion.

I am excited to be in groups with the blogs so we can focus on a handful of peoples post and talk to them a lot more than if we had to do the whole class. I also like how we have different parts of the unit plan due at different times so that way we don't wait till the last minute to do it all and are overwhelmed. It gives us a little stepping stone on the big unit. I do think though we need an idea of our lesson plans or have them wrote up or at least a rough draft of them to be able to make our 100 questions since they are to be based off the lesson plans for the 10 days.
Image result for 100 questions??

I loved looking at the websites, I saved them into my phone as well so I could use them as a reference. There are so many different lesson ideas that can be used and there is some for every grade level and different subject ideas.

Overall, tonight was a great class and the time we spend working during class was really great because I have so much other homework from my other class and trying to start MOPTA, so thank you so much Mrs. Steffes.

Questions: Do you guys think the scope and sequence will help us with the unit plan? I think the 100 questions will be easier since we did questions on DOK last session, do you ? What questions do you have for me?:)

  1. I am so overwhelmed after tonight class that I think I will have to do research and trial and error to see if I am doing things right. I like having the same teacher because you know what to expect but this is my first time with Dr. Steffes so I am not sure what to expect. I don't think the question will be that hard but I did not have the class with the question on DOK last session so I might be in for a surprise. As for the scope and sequence I am still so confused. She is sending us a rubric but we are to type or own. I got the impression she wanted something pretty and organized in a creative way but if she gives us a template then I feel it will be cut and dry. If you have done this type of class before then I would like to ask you about scope and sequence. What input can you give me that would help the process?

    1. I have had her before but not done a scope and sequesnce with her. I have done one for another teacher. I did it cut and dry to a point. I didn't get too detailed. Just remember it is an overview. Just state the unit at least 4 lesson overviews for that unit and then the standards copy and pasted. I think you will get it once you start! I will help all I can :)

  2. Leslie,

First of all - I love your #momlife title. lol Also, I totally agree that it is super nice that the unit plan isn't due all at once. I like projects that are split into sections and kind of build on each other. I also thought the websites we looked at were SUPER helpful. They had so many resources available that I could see myself utilizing. I think I liked the first one better than the second. What class did you take last session? I'm not sure what you mean by DOK questions. You were in the teaching science class with Tonya Heavin right? We did a scope and sequence in that class. I'm not sure that it helped me much with the unit plan but it made me realize how teachers plan for an entire year using the MO learning standards. I think it is a helpful assignment even if I don't really relate it to my unit plan project.

    1. Thank you :). I agree I don't think it relates too much. Just we are picking one of the units out of the scope and sequence and making 10 lesson plans out of it. I did have that class and I think it will be a lot like that idea. I am just glad that all the lessons are Madeline hunter! It was teaching in the content area. We had to do a question from each of the levels of DOK I will post a picture to your blog that we used last session. Just pretty much using a certain word to help you make a question.

  3. I agree with you on the blogging with 4 other people and how it is a lot easier than an entire class! I am so glad we are doing it this way. Plus it helps us connect better. The scope and sequence will help us with our unit plan. At least cut some time down on it because our main ideas will be there already, we just have to add some details and critical thinking to it. I do have a question for you. Where did you say you were student teaching? I know all of Camdenton. Which teacher?

    1. I agree with the groups! I think it will help us a lot with responds and connecting and this class! I agree also with the don't get too overwhelmed. I am glad we find everything out the first night so we can be prepared and just work on it slowly and get it done on time. I think the scope and sequence will help as well. I am going to try to start mine early next week. I will be student teaching at Camdenton! In first grade at Dogwood. I will be with Mrs. Carter! I am so excited! I cannot wait! I am nervous about the work load and passing the task! But I am so excited to be back at Camdenton!!!

  4. I also have to agree that blogging with other 4 people is less hectic and easier. I also think we can help each other and learn from one another just as if we were in a regular classroom. I have not done a scope and sequence in a long time, so I have to refresh my mind. I do think that it could potentially help out with our unit plan. I am guessing you already know your placement for student teaching. What grade will you be teaching?

  6. All about being creative, even with a format! However, for those of you who think outside the box, DO!
