So this picture to the right is from my kindergarten classroom
I worked in this past school year! As you can see some of the
words are falling off. We put it up and never really messed with
it anymore sadly. It consist of all of the sight words we learned
this year during kindergarten. I think it worked great the students
Used it a lot as a reference when writing in their journals.
This word wall to the left is one I found on Pinterest. That is where I find a lot of my ideas for a classroom haha! I love this one because it is for math! I think most people assume a word wall is used just for reading/ writing and that is not the case at all! Its important to use it in all subjects.
This word wall to the right I found on Pinterest as well. I just thought it was cute and was creative. I like that it is some what is low to the ground so students can add and take away words through out the year. I like how the squares are big so a lot of words can fit in it.
This is a picture I found on Pinterest as well. I love it! It is a personal word wall for the students to have with them at all times. I like this because it can be a wonderful resource. Also not all students need help with the same words so this makes it more personal where they can put words they need help with.
Overall, I love word walls and can't wait to see what everyone else post!
Which word wall out of my pictures do you like the most? Why?
Word walls just seem so fun to me. Students constantly ask how words are spelled so I love the idea of having the word wall as a reference for those kinds of situations. Unfortunately, so many classrooms have those walls that NOTHING seems to stick on... so I totally understand what you mean about the words falling off. I was wondering if maybe command strips help with that situation. I really like your third picture just because it is so neat and colorful. Might be a little limiting on space though.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree on the space! Don't we all wish we had unlimited space !!! I wonder if command strips would work as well. Great idea! Might try it sometime.
DeleteI too think that words walls should be used in every classroom. It is a very helpful source for students and if used correctly, the students will have expanded their vocabulary. I used the word wall you posted on the right on my blog too because I found it to be cute and creative and like it a lot. It is something I would want to do in my classroom. I thought the personal word wall to be a great idea. In my past classrooms they used something similar but it was more of dictionary where students added vocabulary throughout the year.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome they did that! I think that will be helpful for students. I think they would enjoy it too because other students don't have to know words they are having trouble with.
DeleteI like the second to last of your pictures the most. Partly this is because I picked the same one. I think it is bright and catches the eye. I think it is important to draw students attention where you want it. If something is not interesting to look at then the students are less apt to use it. We defiantly was them using the word wall. I also did not realize word walls were used for math so this was interesting when all of the pictures started pulling up on pinterest I was surprised.
ReplyDeleteYes I love the colors as wel! It needs to be bright and interesting. I didn't realize they could be used for math until a class I took a few sessions ago! I love it for other subjects. I think it is so cool!
DeleteHaha! We did post the same last two pictures of word walls. That's funny. I liked the idea of a separate word wall for math because there are so many terms. I would say I like your personal word wall the best because the student can customize it to their needs. I would use that in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteI agree about having one for math because of all the terms! There are so many and students forget sometimes when they are learning so much! I agree about the personal one I will use it a lot in my classroom someday. :)
